Antelope
Canyon
This place is often
referred to as Antelopia. It is located on Navajo Nation
land and one needs a permit to photograph this place. There
is a upper and the lower canyons, both were formed in
sandstone by flash floods after heavy rains sometimes knows
as "monsoons" of the southwest. Rushing water and sand carve
out the intricate shapes deep into the ground. At some
places there are small openings to the skies above, it's
here that at certain times of the sunny days the sun rays
are beaming to the floor of the canyons creating spectacular
laser like straight columns of light. Throw a handful of
sand into one and the beam will intensify by reflecting more
light off the dust particles. These Canyons still get
flooded and have to be closed to tourists, last big one was
on October 31, 2006 Those who want to explore this place
virtually by Google here are the coordinates:
[show
