Big Bend, West Texas

Big Bend is a section of West Texas where the Rio Grande river turns about 90 degrees, it is here where part of it has been designated as Big Bend National Park. The rest of the land is held privately except for the State Park near Presidio. Along the Rio Grand runs a state highway winding over hills and sharp turns slicing through small towns and many cattle ranches. I t is along the highway when one encounters old western movie studios, these are open to visitors to walk through. There are also several old and abandoned military garrisons where one time troops were stationed. Out in the countryside one can find remains of mercury ore mining operations. Visiting Big Bend is best done in middle or late Spring and mid Autum, Summers are kind of hot and winters can be quite cold due to higher elevation.
